With the new consoles come a fresh batch of games appealing to all demographics at a time when consumers have an ever-growing demand for home entertainment options. It’s an exciting time with the rollout of these new consoles and an array of new products built on emerging technologies like 5G and Wi-Fi 6 – both which are expected to be pervasive in 2021 with mass adoption of the latest hardware that supports them.  With an abundance of great products, some expected to be highly sought after, the only question is whether retailers will be able to meet the high demand and if shoppers will be able to get the top items on their Christmas wish lists. Against a backdrop of these challenges, retailers face a wealth of opportunities to assist consumers in navigating many innovative technologies and a raft of new products, match solutions to the problems consumers are trying to overcome, and position themselves as trusted, authoritative sources of high-quality products that improve their customers’ lives.

Ask Customers the Right Questions
It’s important that retailers take the time to understand what their customers are trying to do and come armed with expertise around the best solutions. That begins by asking the right questions, such as ‘How many devices are you trying to connect to your home Wi-Fi and how big is your house?’ Consumers are turning to YouTube instruction videos to answer their questions as they attempt to adopt the latest technology to support a burgeoning array of connected devices. Swapping out a new Wi-Fi router feels like high stakes when the entire household Internet connectivity rests in the balance. For many Wi-Fi products and smart home accessories, getting things connected is as simple as installing a smart phone app and scanning a QR code. Some of these apps include meters for measuring the strength of Wi-Fi signals throughout the house to identify the optimal locations for Wi-Fi access points and mesh extenders.  Strong, reliable Wi-Fi is critical when connecting voice activated devices in multiple rooms, streaming TV services upstairs and down, a video doorbell on one side of the house and a garage door opener on the other. Fold in work from home peripherals and e-learning products, and it’s not uncommon for a home Wi-Fi network to support dozens of simultaneously connected devices.
Some Wi-Fi routers let you prioritize applications and tasks, such as gaming, media streaming, work from home or e-learning. That comes in handy when you can’t afford dropping a critical work conference call. In fact, all of the hottest products involve connectivity, whether that’s connecting devices and peripherals inside the home, virtual classroom students to their teachers, or work from home parents to the office. These hot products include 5G connectivity devices from telcos seeking to provide cellular and broadband data connections through a single 5G account. They include 4K televisions streaming content from a variety of services over home Wi-Fi or ethernet connections. And they include smart home appliances, accessories, and whole house sound ecosystems.  These are the must-haves consumers will be looking for in their shopping carts. These are the things that will be winners if your retail store has them and that will make your customers happy, whether they are shopping in the store or online. With the right bundled solutions coupled with expertise about the newest technology and how it can make your customers’ lives simpler and less stressful, retailers can score big in the last months of 2020 while looking forward to even more on the horizon for 2021.
